Rolling road remap near Sheffield, the full dyno session explained
Your car arrives at the Eccles, Manchester facility, goes onto the 4WD Bapro dynamometer and leaves with documented before-and-after power figures. Here is exactly how that works.
The session, how it works
Here is what a session at Manchester Dyno Centre looks like in practice. Your car arrives at the facility on James Nasmyth Way, Eccles, Manchester. It goes straight onto the 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer. Samuel Gunnell runs a baseline power pass to establish where the car sits before any work begins. He reads the ECU, builds or modifies the calibration, and puts the car back on the rollers.
Fuelling, boost pressure, ignition timing and knock events are visible in real time throughout every run. If the data shows anything that needs adjusting, a fuelling correction at high load, a timing pull under boost, the calibration is revised and the car goes back on the rollers. This continues until the data confirms the map is right. The session ends when the figures say so, not when the clock says so.
You leave with documented before-and-after power figures from the session. The calibration in your ECU has been confirmed under load on a real dynamometer, not written to the car in a car park and driven away untested. That is the process on every job here, not just the ones that cost more.
The drive from Sheffield to Eccles is straightforward, easily reached from the motorway network heading north and west. The journey runs around 50 minutes in normal conditions, manageable for work that requires proper equipment.
Facility
Manchester Dyno Centre operates from a 6,000 sq ft workshop at HNA Facilities, Plot Zero, James Nasmyth Way, Eccles, Manchester M30 0SF. The facility houses an in-house 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer, full 4WD capability, which is not standard at most UK remapping facilities. A 2WD rolling road cannot apply a proper load to an all-wheel-drive car; the Bapro handles AWD platforms correctly.
Tuning hardware is Kess3 and CMD. Kess3 covers OBD-port read and write across a wide range of petrol and diesel platforms. CMD handles bench and direct ECU read-write where an OBD connection is insufficient, including ECUs that need to be physically removed for boot-mode access. On-site parking is available. This is a fixed facility only, all work takes place at Eccles.
Services
ECU calibration, Stage 1 (petrol and diesel). Software-only remap developed and confirmed on the dyno. No hardware changes required. Map built to the specific car on the rollers.
ECU calibration, Stage 2. For vehicles with supporting hardware already installed: intercooler, induction kit, exhaust. The calibration is matched to the fitted modifications, not a generic Stage 2 file.
TCU calibration, DSG and traditional gearboxes. Transmission tuning to align shift behaviour, torque delivery and response with the engine map. Covers both dual-clutch DSG and conventional automatic and manual gearboxes where supported.
Rolling road session, power verification only. No remap. Baseline and post-modification power runs documented on the 4WD Bapro. Useful before and after hardware changes.
Launch control activation. Coded and configured for the specific platform. Consistent standing-start performance.
Speed limiter recalibration. Available for vans and commercial vehicles. Call to confirm applicability for your vehicle.
Overrun and anti-lag, flame tune. Enthusiast use. Configured on the dyno rather than estimated from a laptop.
Remote platform tuning, Bootmod3 (BM3) and MHD. Available for BMW and Mini platforms that support these solutions. Call to discuss whether your car qualifies.
Note: Stage 2 work requires supporting hardware to already be fitted before the session. Declare any modifications when booking.
Sheffield drivers at Manchester Dyno Centre
Sheffield has a long history of automotive culture and a strong enthusiast community, drivers who know the difference between a file loaded from a laptop and a calibration confirmed on a dynamometer. From the industrial east of the city to the Peaks-adjacent south, Sheffield drivers travelling to Eccles for remapping work tend to arrive with specific cars, specific questions and an expectation of a proper session. That is what the facility is set up to deliver.
