MHD tuning
MHD is one of the most capable OBD-based tuning platforms available for BMW engines, and it is the platform of choice for owners of N55, S55, and B58-powered cars who want a proper custom map rather than a generic file pulled from a community forum.
At Manchester Dyno Centre, every MHD map is written by Samuel Gunnell. Samuel has over ten years of experience developing calibrations for performance BMWs and is internationally recognised in the tuning community. When you come to us for MHD tuning, you are not buying a file off a shelf. You are getting a calibration built around your specific engine, your hardware, and the way you use the car.
How MHD tuning works
MHD delivers tuning over the OBD port, which means there is no need to remove the ECU or send it away for bench work. Depending on your model, tuning is delivered either through the MHD hardware dongle or via the MHD app paired with a compatible interface cable. You purchase the MHD flasher licence for your vehicle, and we supply the custom map file to load onto your car.
Before we send a file, Samuel will want to know your engine code, your current hardware specification, and what you are hoping to achieve. That conversation shapes the calibration. There is no one-size-fits-all approach here.
Engines and stages we support
MHD covers a broad range of BMW applications, with particularly strong support for:
Depending on your platform and the hardware fitted to your car, we can develop Stage 1, Stage 2, and ethanol-blend calibrations including E30 and E50 maps where the platform and your setup support it. Get in touch to discuss what is achievable with your specific car.
MHD versus Bootmod3
Both MHD and Bootmod3 (BM3) are legitimate, well-developed platforms, but they do not cover the same engines equally. MHD has long been the stronger choice for N55 and S55 tuning, the platform has a deeper development history with those engines and a wider range of supported maps. For B58-powered cars, both platforms are viable options, and the right choice often comes down to your hardware, your goals, and your preference. If you are unsure which platform suits your car, contact us before purchasing anything, it is a straightforward conversation and it can save you buying the wrong licence.
Get in touch
MHD tuning is available remotely, you do not need to visit us in person for most applications, though you are always welcome to. To get started, call Samuel on 0161 302 5117 or use the enquiry form on this page. Let us know your engine, your current hardware, and whether you have already purchased the MHD flasher. We will come back to you with the right approach and a quote.
