Mercedes remapping
Mercedes-Benz builds its engines with a wide performance window between the factory calibration and what the hardware is genuinely capable of. This is particularly true of the CDI diesel range, where fuel curves, injection timing and boost pressure are all mapped conservatively to cover multiple markets and fuel quality standards. It also applies to certain AMG petrol models, where standard calibrations leave headroom that a properly developed remap can access. At Manchester Dyno Centre, Samuel Gunnell works across the Mercedes engine range, developing maps to order and verifying every result on our 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer before the car is handed back.
Mercedes CDI diesel remapping
The CDI diesel is the backbone of the Mercedes remap market and the platform we work with most frequently across the Mercedes range. The four-cylinder units in the C220d, C300d, GLC220d and GLC300d all carry more torque capability than the factory map exploits. Across the E-Class, the E220d and E350d are consistently strong remap platforms, the six-cylinder E350d in particular, with its twin-turbocharged architecture, responds very well to calibration work and produces notably strong torque figures when properly mapped.
Performance remaps on CDI platforms produce sharper throttle response, stronger mid-range torque and better overtaking capability across the board. The car becomes more willing on A-roads and more composed on motorways where the standard diesel can feel reluctant above certain speeds.
Economy remapping is also available for CDI owners who want to reduce running costs rather than increase performance. The same flexibility in the factory calibration that creates power gains can equally be directed towards fuel efficiency, useful for high-mileage drivers or those who simply want the car to cost less to run.
AMG models
AMG is a specialist area and one we approach carefully. The performance envelope is already narrower at the standard calibration level on AMG hardware, and these engines require more precise calibration work than a standard road car. That said, Stage 1 remapping is available on certain AMG petrol models. The C63 is a platform we have experience with, and the results are meaningful when the calibration is developed properly.
We are straightforward about what is realistic. If your AMG is a suitable candidate for remapping, Samuel will tell you clearly what is achievable and how the process works. If the car is not suitable, either because the gains would not be worth the cost, or because the platform requires hardware modifications to support a safe remap, we will say that. We do not oversell results on performance hardware.
4MATIC models and the 4WD dyno
A number of Mercedes models run 4MATIC all-wheel drive, including the C300 4MATIC, GLC300 4MATIC and various AMG derivatives. Remapping a 4MATIC car on a conventional two-wheel rolling road means developing the calibration on the road, or working with the AWD system partially disabled during dyno runs. Neither approach gives accurate verified figures.
Our 4WD Bapro dynamometer loads all four wheels simultaneously, which is the only accurate way to develop and verify a remap on an all-wheel-drive platform. The calibration is built against real drivetrain conditions, and the before-and-after figures you receive reflect what the car is actually doing, not what a two-wheel run suggests it might be doing.
Mercedes Sprinter remapping
The Mercedes Sprinter is one of the most widely used commercial diesel platforms in the UK, and its ECU architecture is well understood and consistent across model years. We remap the Sprinter for economy, adjusting fuelling curves and injection timing to reduce diesel consumption across motorway and long-distance routes, and for performance, increasing torque output for operators using the van for heavy work.
Speed limiter removal is available on the Sprinter as part of the same session where required. If you operate Sprinters commercially and want to minimise downtime, speak to us about scheduling multiple vehicles across consecutive days.
