The M177 across the E63 range
The M177 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 has powered the E63 through more than one generation, with the standard car and the E63 S sitting at different states of factory tune within the same architecture. The S variant takes output to 563 bhp on the W213 pre-facelift (2017-2020) and 604 bhp on the facelifted W213 (2021 onward), running through 4Matic+ in every case. Mercedes-AMG's factory calibration is set to cover a wide range of markets and fuel grades, and that global-market conservatism is exactly where the genuine headroom sits for a car running on consistent UK fuel.
Stage 1 calibration at Manchester Dyno Centre is developed and verified on the 4WD Bapro dynamometer using MG Flasher, the correct remote platform for this engine family.
Why M177 remapping needs a specialist
The M177 is a sophisticated, heavily engineered V8, and getting a calibration right on it means more than raising a boost target. Samuel Gunnell has direct experience developing maps on AMG's twin-turbo V8 family, using MG Flasher to access the ECU remotely and the 4WD Bapro dyno to verify every figure the calibration produces. A generic file built for a different market's fuel standard or a different M177 state of tune is a real risk on an engine already running close to what its factory hardware can sustain. Every E63 map here is developed against your specific car's own data, not pulled from a shared library file.
Every service available on the E63
Stage 1 is the core service across the E63 range. Stage 2 is available where supporting hardware suits the extra load, and we'll advise honestly on whether it's worth pursuing for your specific car. Transmission calibration is available alongside the engine remap, sharpening shift response through the automatic gearbox. An economy-focused remap is available for owners who want lower running costs on longer journeys without giving up the car's character. Standalone rolling road sessions are available for a baseline pull or a post-modification check.
Gearbox
The E63's automatic transmission is a genuine part of the performance story on this car, and it's worth calibrating alongside the engine rather than leaving on the factory settings. Shift speed can be sharpened, shift points adjusted to hold gears longer under hard acceleration, and the transmission's behaviour in the more aggressive AMG drive modes made more decisive. On a car producing this much torque, a gearbox that responds as quickly as the engine now does makes the whole calibration feel coherent rather than like two separate systems working against each other.
