Why the 4WD dyno matters for the CLA45

4Matic+ is not a badge on the boot lid, it's the reason the CLA45 puts over 400 bhp down through a compact saloon body without the front end fighting for grip, and it's the reason a two-roller dyno can't test one properly. Put a 4Matic+ car on a rig built for a front-wheel-drive hatchback and you either force an axle to sit unloaded or run the car in a mode it was never designed to operate in on the road. Neither produces a real number.

Our 4WD Bapro dynamometer loads all four wheels the way 4Matic+ actually distributes drive between them. The baseline pull, the calibration, and the verification runs that follow all happen with the car doing what it does on a real road, not a compromised version of it.

The calibration process

We start with a baseline pull on the 4WD Bapro dyno to record exactly what your CLA45's M139 is producing before any calibration work begins. The ECU is read using MG Flasher, the platform's remote tool for this engine family, and a calibration is developed specifically for your car's current condition and state of tune. Once the new map is applied, we run verification pulls back to back on the same rollers, checking the figures hold and the engine is stable under sustained load before the session closes.

Every service available beyond the Stage 1 map

Stage 1 developed on the dyno is the core of most CLA45 sessions, but it isn't the only thing on offer. Stage 2 is available where supporting hardware, such as an upgraded intercooler and downpipe, is fitted. Transmission calibration is available alongside the engine remap for sharper, more direct shift response through the DCT gearbox. An economy-focused remap is available for owners who want the car to cost less on daily driving without giving up its character. Standalone rolling road sessions are available for a baseline pull or a post-modification check.

Stage 1 vs Stage 2

Stage 1 on the CLA45 is software only, recalibrating fuelling, boost and ignition strategy within what the standard hardware can support. The CLA45 S runs the M139 at its highest factory state of tune, 415 to 421 bhp, which means the calibration has to be built with real precision rather than an aggressive blanket increase. Stage 2 asks more of supporting hardware and unlocks further headroom once that's fitted. We'll advise honestly on whether it's the right step for your car.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't a two-roller dyno test my CLA45 properly?
A two-roller rig can only drive one axle at a time. Run a 4Matic+ car like the CLA45 on one and you either force it into a non-standard driving mode or work with data from an unloaded axle. Our 4WD Bapro dyno loads all four wheels simultaneously, giving a figure that reflects how the car actually drives.
How long does the dyno session itself take?
A full Stage 1 session, including baseline pull, calibration and verification runs, typically takes a few hours. We'll confirm exact timing for your CLA45 when you book.
Do you use my car's actual data or a generic file?
Your CLA45's own data. The baseline pull tells us exactly what your specific car is producing, and the calibration developed through MG Flasher is built from that, not loaded from a generic M139 file.
What happens if the dyno run shows a problem with my car?
We stop and tell you. If the baseline pull reveals an underlying issue, we flag it before continuing rather than calibrate around a fault that needs fixing first.
Can I book a rolling road session on my CLA45 without a remap?
Yes. Standalone dyno sessions are available for a baseline figure, a post-modification check, or a straightforward power run.
