Land Rovers and Range Rovers are among the most capable vehicles on the road, and among the most frequently under-mapped. The factory calibration is cautious by design, built for global markets, varying fuel grades, and conservative service intervals. The result is that most of these vehicles leave the showroom with meaningful performance left unused.

Why the 4WD dyno matters for Land Rover and Range Rover tuning

This is the most important point on this page, and it applies to every Land Rover and Range Rover model we work on.

All current Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles are four-wheel drive. That sounds obvious, but it has a direct consequence for how they can be tuned.

Most rolling roads are 2WD. They can only drive from one axle at a time. If you put an AWD vehicle on a 2WD dyno and attempt a full-power run, one axle is unloaded, and the vehicle's AWD system does not behave as it would on the road. Tuners working in this situation either limit power during the session to prevent drivetrain stress, or they work with incomplete load data. Neither is acceptable when developing a calibration that the car will run on the road.

Our Bapro dynamometer is fully 4WD. Both axles are driven simultaneously. When we develop a map for your Discovery or Range Rover Sport, we do it under conditions that accurately reflect how the car drives. The power figures we record are real. The calibration is verified under real load.

For any Land Rover or Range Rover, this is not optional, it is how it should be done.

Models we work with

Discovery 4 and Discovery 5
The 3.0 TDV6 in the Discovery 4 is a well-regarded diesel with strong torque characteristics and good tuning headroom. Remapping typically improves low-end pull, mid-range delivery, and economy under light throttle conditions, qualities that suit the Discovery's character as a long-distance, load-carrying vehicle. The Discovery 5 with the 3.0 SDV6 responds similarly, and later SD4 models using Ingenium diesels are equally well suited to remapping. Whether the priority is towing performance, economy, or a more responsive drive, the Discovery platform rewards careful calibration.
Discovery Sport
The Ingenium family of engines, both the 2.0d diesel and the Si4 petrol, feature in the Discovery Sport across multiple generations. The Ingenium diesel in particular tends to produce conservative factory figures, and remapping reliably unlocks the headroom built into the platform. The Si4 petrol responds well in both stage 1 and stage 2 configurations depending on supporting hardware.
Range Rover Sport
The Range Rover Sport has been offered with a wide range of powertrains, and we cover the most significant tuning options across the range. The 3.0 TDV6 diesel is a strong performer with remapping, improving power delivery and economy simultaneously. The SDV8 responds well at stage 1 and can support further work with appropriate supporting modifications. The P400 petrol, a 3.0-litre straight-six with mild hybrid assistance, is a newer platform with strong tuning potential. Range Rover Velar
The Velar's Ingenium engines are the same platform seen across the Jaguar Land Rover range. Both the 2.0d diesel and the 2.0i4 petrol are suitable for remapping. Given the Velar's positioning as a refined performance SUV, the improvements in throttle sharpness and mid-range response that come with a remap are particularly noticeable in normal driving.
Defender L663
The current-generation Defender reintroduced Land Rover to a different kind of customer, one who expects both capability and performance. The Ingenium 2.0d and 3.0d diesels tune well. The P400 straight-six petrol is a genuinely strong engine that responds very well to recalibration, with meaningful gains across the power band available at stage 1. Stage 2 work is possible on the right build with supporting hardware.

What we offer

Stage 1 remap ECU recalibration with no hardware changes required. The starting point for most Land Rover and Range Rover owners looking to improve performance, throttle response, or fuel economy.

Stage 2 remap Developed to work alongside hardware modifications such as a performance intake or exhaust upgrade. A stage 2 map is specific to your build, not a generic file applied across all cars.

Economy remap For owners who cover significant mileage, whether towing, motorway commuting, or regular long-distance travel, an economy-focused calibration can deliver real-world fuel savings without a loss of driveability.

Gearbox remap Land Rover's ZF automatic and in-house automatic transmissions can be recalibrated for sharper, more responsive shift behaviour. Particularly relevant if you are also remapping the engine.

Rolling road session Standalone dyno runs available, useful for baseline measurements, post-modification verification, or diagnosing a performance issue.

Frequently asked questions

Will remapping affect my Land Rover warranty?
If your vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty, a remap may affect it. Some extended warranty providers also carry exclusions for modified vehicles. We recommend checking your warranty terms before proceeding. For vehicles outside of warranty, this is not a concern.
Can you remap a Land Rover with the Ingenium engine?
Yes. The Ingenium engine family is well supported across tuning platforms. Both petrol and diesel Ingenium variants are suitable for remapping, and we have developed maps for multiple Ingenium applications.
Do you remap both petrol and diesel Land Rovers?
Yes. We work across both fuel types. Diesel Land Rovers tend to show strong economy and torque gains. Petrol models, particularly the P400 and Si4, respond very well in terms of power and throttle response.
Why does my Land Rover need a 4WD dyno?
Because every current Land Rover and Range Rover is AWD. On a 2WD dyno, one axle is unloaded during a power run, the AWD system is not operating as it would on the road, and the load figures used to develop the map are inaccurate. Our Bapro dyno is full 4WD. This is the correct way to develop a map for these vehicles.
