The Ingenium family in the Discovery Sport
The Discovery Sport has run on Jaguar Land Rover's Ingenium engine family across both petrol and diesel derivatives, spanning roughly 148 to 249 bhp depending on the specific variant and model year. The Ingenium diesel in particular is set conservatively at the factory, built to run reliably across a wide range of fuel qualities and climates, which leaves genuine calibration headroom for a market like the UK where fuel quality is consistent. The Ingenium petrol, badged Si4 on earlier cars, responds well to Stage 1 and, on the right build, Stage 2 calibration.
Stage 1 on either fuel type is a software-only recalibration of fuelling, boost and ignition strategy.
Why Ingenium remapping needs a specialist
The Ingenium engine family is shared across a wide range of Jaguar Land Rover models, but that doesn't mean every calibration on it is interchangeable. Fuelling and boost strategy differ meaningfully between the diesel and petrol variants, and between the states of tune used across the Land Rover range. A generic file built for a different market's fuel standard or a different Ingenium application is a real risk on an engine this widely deployed.
At Manchester Dyno Centre, every Discovery Sport calibration is developed against your specific vehicle's own data on the 4WD Bapro dyno, not pulled from a shared library file. Samuel Gunnell takes a baseline pull first, on your car, so the starting point for the new map reflects the vehicle's actual condition rather than a generic assumption about what an Ingenium engine of this age and mileage should be producing. This vehicle is remapped in person, via Kess3 or CMD, at our Eccles facility only.
Every service available on the Discovery Sport
Stage 1 is available across both Ingenium fuel types. Stage 2 is available on the petrol variant where supporting hardware is fitted, and we'll advise honestly on whether it's worth pursuing for your car. An economy-focused remap is available on the diesel in particular, useful for owners covering longer commutes or regular family trips who want lower running costs rather than more power. Gearbox recalibration is available alongside the engine map on automatic models. Standalone rolling road sessions are available for a baseline pull or a post-modification check.
Gearbox
Automatic Discovery Sport models are commonly booked in for gearbox recalibration alongside the engine map. Shift points are adjusted for a more decisive change under load, and the hesitation some owners notice at part throttle on the standard calibration is reduced. This is worth doing in the same visit as the engine remap where possible, because a sharper engine response is felt most clearly when the gearbox is picking the right ratio to deliver it, rather than holding a taller gear and blunting the improvement.
