Why the 4WD dyno matters for the Range Rover Sport SVR

The SVR is not a car you calibrate on a two-roller rig and hope for the best. It's a permanently four-wheel-drive SUV putting well over 500 bhp through all four wheels, and a single-axle dyno either forces it into a driving mode it wasn't engineered to run in on the road, or leaves you working with data from an axle that isn't loaded the way it would be under real acceleration. Neither is acceptable on a car operating this close to the edge of what its hardware can sustain.

Our Bapro dynamometer drives all four wheels simultaneously, so the baseline pull and the verification pulls that follow happen with the car doing exactly what it does when it's actually being driven. For a supercharged V8 SUV at this level, that isn't a nice-to-have, it's the only way to develop a calibration that's genuinely safe.

How we map the Range Rover Sport SVR

We start with a baseline pull on the 4WD Bapro dyno to record precisely what your SVR's supercharged V8 is producing before any calibration work begins. The ECU is read and the existing map assessed, then a calibration is developed specifically for your vehicle's condition and current state. Once the new map is applied, we run multiple verification pulls back to back on the same rollers, checking the calibration is stable under sustained load before the session closes.

Every service available beyond the Stage 1 map

Stage 1 developed on the dyno is the core of most SVR sessions, but the menu goes further. Stage 2 is available where supporting hardware suits the extra load the engine will be asked to carry. Gearbox recalibration is available for sharper, more decisive shift behaviour on a car where transmission response matters as much as engine output. Standalone rolling road sessions are available for a baseline pull, a post-modification check, or simply to see real figures on paper.

Stage 1 vs Stage 2

Stage 1 on the SVR is software only, recalibrating fuelling, boost and ignition strategy within what the standard supercharger and supporting hardware can handle. For most owners, that's where the real, sustainable gain sits. Stage 2 asks more of supporting hardware, typically an upgraded intake and exhaust, and unlocks further headroom once that's fitted. On a car already operating at 542 bhp from the factory on pre-2018 cars, rising to 567 bhp from the 2018 update onward, we're deliberately cautious about pushing further than the hardware genuinely supports, and we'll tell you honestly where that line sits.

Why can't a two-roller dyno test my Range Rover Sport SVR properly?
A two-roller rig can only drive one axle at a time. Run a permanently four-wheel-drive, 570-plus bhp SUV like the SVR on one and you either force it into an abnormal driving mode or work with an unloaded axle. Our 4WD Bapro dyno loads all four wheels at once, giving a figure that reflects how the car actually drives and puts less abnormal stress on the drivetrain during testing.
How long does the dyno session itself take?
A full Stage 1 session including baseline pull, calibration and multiple verification runs typically takes several hours on a car at this performance level. We'll confirm exact timing for your SVR when you book.
Do you use my car's actual data or a generic file?
Your SVR's own data. The baseline pull tells us exactly what your specific vehicle is producing, and the calibration is built from that, not loaded from a generic supercharged V8 file.
What happens if the dyno run shows a problem with my car?
We stop and tell you. If the baseline pull reveals an underlying issue, whether that's a boost or supercharger-related fault, we flag it before continuing rather than calibrate around a problem.
Can I book a rolling road session on my Range Rover Sport SVR without a remap?
Yes. Standalone dyno sessions are available for a baseline figure, a post-modification check, or a straightforward power run.
