The B48 across the Mini range
Cooper S, B46/B48
The Cooper S has run BMW Group's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder across more than one generation, producing between 176 and 192 bhp depending on which Mini generation and state of tune the car has. Earlier cars use the B46 designation, later ones the B48, and while both share the same underlying architecture, the factory calibration and supporting hardware differ enough between them that they should not be treated as identical remap projects.
JCW hatch, B48, front-wheel drive
The JCW hatch takes the same B48 and pushes it to 228 to 231 bhp from the factory, still through the front wheels only. It is the most highly strung of the front-wheel-drive B48 applications in the range, and the factory calibration reflects that with less headroom left unused than on the Cooper S, though genuine Stage 1 gains are still there for the finding.
Clubman JCW and Countryman JCW, B48, ALL4
Both the Clubman JCW and Countryman JCW run the B48 rated at 300 to 306 bhp, sent through Mini's ALL4 all-wheel-drive system rather than the front wheels alone. ALL4 changes how the car puts power down under load, which matters for how a calibration is developed and verified, not just for the peak figure on a spec sheet.
Stage 1 calibration at Manchester Dyno Centre is developed and verified on the 4WD Bapro dynamometer, checked against your specific car's own baseline pull rather than an assumed figure across the range. Full generation and model detail lives on the dedicated pages for the Cooper S, JCW hatch, Clubman JCW and Countryman JCW.
Why Mini remapping needs a specialist
The B48 and B46 engines are shared across a wide range of BMW Group models, but that does not mean every remap on them is interchangeable. Each Mini application runs its own specific state of tune, its own supporting hardware, and either front-wheel drive or the ALL4 system, each with its own traction characteristics a calibration needs to respect. A generic file built for a different B48 application on a different drivetrain layout is a real risk here. Every Mini on this site is remapped in person, via Kess3 or CMD, at our Eccles facility only. Samuel Gunnell builds each calibration against your specific car's own data on the dyno, not from a shared library file that happens to fit the same engine code.
Every service available across the Mini range
Stage 1 is available across the B46 and B48-engined range, Cooper S through to JCW. Stage 2 is available where supporting hardware, such as an upgraded intercooler and intake, is fitted, and we will advise honestly on whether it is worth pursuing for your specific car. Gearbox recalibration is available alongside the engine remap on automatic models. An economy-focused remap is available for owners who want lower running costs from daily driving. Standalone rolling road sessions are available for a baseline pull or a post-modification check. For the enthusiast owner, a flame tune, pops and bangs on the overrun, can be coded in for private, off-road use.
Gearbox
Every model in the current Mini range is available with either a manual gearbox or an automatic transmission, and on automatic cars a gearbox recalibration is available alongside the engine remap. This sharpens shift points and reduces hesitation under load, and it is a popular addition for owners who want the car to feel more decisive when driven with intent rather than left in comfort settings, particularly on the ALL4-equipped Clubman and Countryman JCW.
