The session, how it works

Here is what a session at Manchester Dyno Centre looks like in practice. Your car arrives at the facility on James Nasmyth Way, Eccles, Manchester. It goes straight onto the 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer. Samuel Gunnell runs a baseline power pass to establish where the car sits before any work begins. That figure is recorded.

Samuel reads the ECU using Kess3 or CMD depending on the platform and the access method required. He builds or modifies the calibration and puts the car back on the rollers. Fuelling, boost pressure, ignition timing and knock events are monitored live throughout every run. If the data indicates the calibration needs adjustment, it is adjusted. The car goes back on the dyno. This continues until the numbers confirm the map is correct for your specific engine.

The session ends when the data is right. You leave with documented before-and-after power figures taken from your car, on that dyno, on the day. That is the process on every job here, from a diesel van to a fully modified performance car.

The facility

Manchester Dyno Centre operates from a 6,000 sq ft workshop at HNA Facilities, Plot Zero, James Nasmyth Way, Eccles, Manchester M30 0SF. The dyno cell houses a 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer. Full 4WD capability is not standard equipment at most UK tuning facilities; the majority of rolling roads in this country are two-wheel-drive only and cannot load an AWD vehicle correctly.

ECU read and write is handled via Kess3 and CMD hardware. Kess3 covers OBD-port access across a wide range of platforms. CMD covers bench tuning where the ECU is physically removed from the vehicle for direct read and write. Both are professional-grade tools. On-site parking is available. This is a fixed facility only; there are no mobile visits.

Services

ECU calibration, Stage 1: Software-only remap for petrol and diesel engines. No hardware changes required. Calibration built and confirmed on the 4WD Bapro dyno.

ECU calibration, Stage 2: Requires supporting hardware already fitted: intercooler, induction kit, exhaust. The calibration is mapped to your specific modifications on the rollers. Stage 2 work cannot be carried out without the hardware in place.

TCU calibration, gearbox and DSG remap: Shift points, torque limits and gearbox response tuned to complement the engine map. Covers DSG and traditional automatic gearboxes.

Rolling road session: Power verification without remapping. Baseline documentation, confirmation of existing work, or pre-build measurement. Data is recorded and provided.

Launch control activation: Coded and configured for consistent standing starts on suitable vehicles.

Speed limiter recalibration: Available for commercial vehicles and vans where required.

Overrun and anti-lag (flame tune): Exhaust overrun tuning. For enthusiast use.

Remote platform tuning: Via Bootmod3 (BM3) and MHD for BMW and Mini platforms. Customer must hold an active platform licence. Requires discussion before booking.

New Mills sits in the Derbyshire foothills, around 18 to 20 miles from the Eccles facility, with a straightforward drive via Stockport onto the motorway network. The drive takes around 30 to 35 minutes in reasonable traffic. Drivers from New Mills, Hayfield, Whaley Bridge and the surrounding High Peak area make the trip for work that requires a proper dyno environment rather than a roadside calibration. Eccles is clearly signed from the motorway network.

Can you remap all-wheel-drive vehicles?
Yes. The 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer loads all four driven wheels simultaneously, which is the only correct way to run an AWD vehicle on a rolling road. A two-wheel-drive rolling road cannot load an AWD platform properly and will produce inaccurate power readings and risk drivetrain stress. If your car is AWD, confirm this when booking.
