Cupra Formentor VZ5 remap
EA855 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo. Dyno-verified at our Eccles facility on the same platform that underpins the Audi RS3. Call 0161 302 5117 to talk through your VZ5.
The EA855 five-cylinder
The Formentor VZ5 runs Audi's EA855 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo, the same engine family found in the Audi RS3 and TT RS, producing 385 to 390 bhp from the factory through Cupra's 4Drive all-wheel-drive system. This is not a shared badge or a marketing line, it is genuinely the same engine architecture, and it means the VZ5 inherits a platform this workshop already knows in detail from years of RS3 work.
Stage 1 calibration on the EA855 brings output to approximately 460 bhp, developed and verified on our 4WD Bapro dynamometer rather than estimated from a two-roller pull. The five-cylinder character, already distinctive at 390 bhp from the factory, sharpens further once the calibration is properly developed. Because this is one of the platforms we have the most verified dyno data on, we can talk to you about real figures rather than industry-general estimates.
Why VZ5 remapping needs a specialist
The five-cylinder EA855 is not a common engine outside the RS3, TT RS and this Cupra application, and a generic file written for the wrong state of tune is a real risk on an engine this distinctive. Samuel Gunnell develops every VZ5 calibration from a baseline pull specific to that car, reading the ECU via Kess3 or CMD bench tooling at Eccles. This is in-person work only, xHP is a gearbox tool for VW Group DSG transmissions and does not touch the engine ECU, so the calibration itself is always done on the bench rather than remotely. Getting the fuelling and boost wrong on a five-cylinder running this much factory turbo pressure is not a mistake worth risking with an off-the-shelf map.
Every service available on the Formentor VZ5
Stage 1 calibration is the most requested service on the VZ5, developed to the approximately 460 bhp figure verified on our dyno. Stage 2 is available where supporting hardware, typically an upgraded intercooler and downpipe, is fitted, and we will advise honestly on whether your car's setup justifies it. A standalone rolling road session, without any remap attached, suits owners who want a documented figure before committing further. Launch control coding is available on cars specified with it. Economy remapping is worth a conversation for owners who use the VZ5 as a daily car alongside weekend driving.
DSG gearbox remapping
The Formentor VZ5 runs Cupra's DSG dual-clutch transmission, and xHP is the correct tool for recalibrating it, a dedicated gearbox and TCU tool for VW Group DSG and S tronic transmissions rather than an engine tuning platform. A remapped DSG shifts faster, holds gears more decisively under load, and sharpens launch control response. We carry out DSG recalibration at the same session as the engine map where possible, bringing shift speed and torque management in line with the increased output.
