The tuner

Samuel Gunnell has been remapping professionally for over ten years. His work is in demand well beyond the North West, his tuning files carry a reputation that extends internationally, and he is recognised within the performance tuning industry for the quality of what he produces.

Every job at Manchester Dyno Centre is handled by Samuel personally. Formby drivers who make the journey to the Eccles facility are not passed to a junior technician. Samuel reads the ECU, builds or modifies the calibration, and runs the car on the 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer himself. Fuelling, boost pressure, ignition timing and knock events are all monitored throughout every run. The calibration is refined on the rollers until the data confirms it is right.

You leave with documented before-and-after power figures from your own engine, not an estimate based on what the model usually makes, and not a figure from a generic calibration file built for another car. Measured output, confirmed on the day, from your specific engine.

Why choose Manchester Dyno Centre

In-house 4WD dyno. The 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer at the Eccles facility is owned and operated by Manchester Dyno Centre. It is not shared with another workshop. Full 4WD capability means all-wheel-drive platforms are loaded correctly during power runs, something most UK rolling roads cannot do.

Professional-grade tooling. Kess3 and CMD hardware covers OBD and direct ECU access across a wide range of platforms. Not clone tools.

117Speed. Manchester Dyno Centre is operated by 117Speed, the most decorated remapping business in the North West.

Quoted individually. No published prices because no two jobs are the same. Every quote reflects the vehicle and the specific work required.

Services

Performance Stage 1 remap, power and torque gains from software alone, no hardware changes required. Stage 2 remap, calibration built around fitted modifications: intercooler, induction kit, exhaust. Launch control activation and flame and overrun tune are available for appropriate platforms.

Efficiency Economy remap, calibration adjusted to lower fuel consumption on standard driving cycles. Gearbox and DSG remap, shift patterns and clamping pressure aligned to match the engine output.

Measurement Rolling road session, a power run with before-and-after figures, without a remap. A useful starting point for any car with an unknown history or recent modifications fitted.

Specialist platforms Remote tuning via Bootmod3 (BM3) and MHD for BMW and Mini platforms where calibration can be delivered and flashed remotely.

Frequently asked questions

Who carries out the tuning at Manchester Dyno Centre?
Samuel Gunnell, personally, on every job. There is no handoff to another technician at any stage of the process, Samuel handles the ECU read, builds the calibration, and monitors every dyno run from start to finish.
What vehicles and platforms does Samuel work on?
BMW B58, N55, N57 and S55 are a core specialism, alongside Audi, Volkswagen Golf GTI, GTD and R, Ford Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Transit and Ranger, Seat Cupra, Skoda Octavia vRS, Vauxhall and Mercedes. Both petrol and diesel are covered. The 4WD Bapro dynamometer handles all-wheel-drive platforms that a standard 2WD rolling road cannot load correctly under power.
Is it worth travelling from Formby for a remap?
Formby is approximately 40 to 45 minutes from the Eccles facility. For the right car and the right customer, the answer is yes. A calibration developed on a 4WD Bapro dyno and confirmed against real measured figures is a meaningfully different product from a generic file loaded locally. Samuel handles every job himself, that level of personal involvement is not available from most services, at any price point.
What do I need to do to prepare my car before a visit?
Arrive with a full tank of the correct fuel for your engine. Resolve any outstanding fault codes before the session, these need to be investigated and cleared, not left active when booking tuning work. Declare all modifications when you call to book, as this determines how the session is structured and how long it runs.
