The 992 flat-six

The current 992-generation Carrera runs a 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six, a direct evolution of the engine family Porsche has refined across successive 911 generations rather than a clean-sheet design. Standard Carrera models produce 379 bhp, with the Carrera S and 4S variants pushing to 385 bhp thanks to larger turbochargers and revised intercooling. The rear-wheel-drive Carrera sends drive purely to the back axle, while the Carrera 4 and 4S run Porsche's all-wheel-drive system, splitting drive variably between front and rear depending on conditions.

The factory calibration on this engine is deliberately conservative, tuned to run cleanly across every market and fuel grade Porsche sells into, which leaves real headroom for a dyno-developed Stage 1 map. What we can say with confidence is that the turbo hardware on this engine has genuine capacity beyond the factory setting, properly explored rather than guessed at.

Why 911 remapping needs a specialist

A twin-turbo flat-six sitting behind the rear axle is not an engine you calibrate by raising a boost target and hoping the rest of the car copes. Samuel Gunnell develops every 992 calibration from a baseline pull specific to that car, reading the ECU via Kess3 or CMD bench tooling at Eccles. This is in-person work only. There is no remote flashing platform for Porsche on this site, and a generic file written for a different market's fuel or emissions requirements is a real risk on an engine running this much factory boost. Getting the fuelling and timing wrong on a flat-six with the turbos mounted where they are is not a mistake you want discovered on the road.

Stage 1 calibration is the most common request on the 992, but it is one part of a wider menu. Stage 2 is available where supporting hardware is fitted, we will advise honestly on whether your car's current setup justifies it. A standalone rolling road session, without any remap attached, suits owners who want a documented figure before committing further. Launch control coding is available on PDK-equipped cars specified with the system. Economy remapping is worth a conversation for owners who use the 911 as a daily car and want smoother, more efficient response rather than outright power.

PDK gearbox remapping

Most 992 Carreras on UK roads run Porsche's PDK dual-clutch transmission, and it responds well to recalibration alongside the engine. A remapped PDK shifts faster, holds gears more aggressively under load, and sharpens launch control response where the car is fitted with it. We carry out PDK recalibration at the same session as the engine map where the car's specification supports it, bringing the whole powertrain into alignment rather than leaving the gearbox running a calibration built around the factory's lower output.
