Why the 4WD dyno matters for the Macan

The Macan's all-wheel-drive system varies its front-to-rear torque split depending on conditions, sending drive predominantly rearward under normal load and shifting it forward when traction demands it. That is part of what makes the Macan handle in a way that feels closer to a sports car than most SUVs in its class, and it is exactly the behaviour a single-axle dyno cannot replicate properly.

Put a Macan on a two-roller rig built for a front-wheel-drive hatchback and you either lock an axle out of the equation or force the all-wheel-drive system into a test mode it was never designed to run in on the road. Neither gives you a number you can trust.

Our 4WD Bapro dynamometer loads all four wheels independently, so the Macan behaves exactly as it does on a real road, from the baseline pull through to the verified map.

How we map the Macan

Every Macan starts with a baseline pull on the Bapro, giving us a genuine reference for your specific car rather than a factory datasheet. The ECU is read via Kess3 or CMD bench tooling at Eccles, this is in-person work only, there is no remote flashing platform for Porsche on this site. From that read, Samuel Gunnell develops a calibration around your car's actual fuelling, boost and timing data, whether you run the 2.0-litre four-cylinder or the 2.9-litre V6. Once the map is applied, the Macan goes back on the rollers for verification pulls, run back to back on the same dyno cell as the baseline, so the before-and-after comparison is measured on identical equipment.

Beyond the Stage 1 map

A Stage 1 calibration developed on the dyno is the starting point, not the whole menu. Where the car runs PDK, we recalibrate the transmission alongside the engine, sharpening shift speed and torque management to match the new output. A standalone rolling road session, without any remap attached, is available for owners who want a documented figure first. Economy remapping suits owners who use the Macan as a daily car and want smoother, more efficient response rather than outright power. Stage 2 is available where the supporting hardware is fitted, call to discuss what your car currently has.

Stage 1 vs Stage 2

Stage 1 on the Macan is a software-only calibration, developed from your car's own baseline pull and requiring no hardware changes. It is where the majority of Macans sit, whether four-cylinder or V6, and for most owners it is the right stopping point. above the factory output for your specific variant, 261 to 265 bhp on the four-cylinder or 375 to 434 bhp on the V6 S and GTS.

Stage 2 asks more of supporting hardware to sustain higher boost safely. We will advise honestly on whether your Macan's current setup justifies it.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't a two-roller dyno test my Macan properly?
A two-roller rig is built to load a single, non-driven axle. The Macan's all-wheel-drive system sends drive to both axles depending on conditions, so a two-roller test either disengages part of the drivetrain or forces the car into an unrepresentative mode. Our 4WD Bapro dynamometer loads all four wheels together.
How long does the dyno session itself take?
A typical Stage 1 session, including baseline pull, mapping and verification runs, takes around half a day at Eccles. Stage 2 work or PDK recalibration can extend that, we will confirm a realistic timeframe when you book.
Do you use my car's actual data or a generic file?
Every calibration starts with your Macan's own baseline pull, not a generic file. Samuel Gunnell builds the map from that data, so the fuelling, boost and timing reflect your specific car rather than an average across the range.
What happens if the dyno run shows a problem with my car?
If the baseline pull flags a fault or anything that would make calibration unsafe, we stop and talk you through it before any mapping happens. A dyno session doubles as a genuine health check.
Can I book a rolling road session on my Macan without a remap?
