Every service available on the WRX STI
Stage 1 calibration on the EJ257 is developed and verified on our 4WD Bapro dyno, and it's rarely the only thing an STI owner leaves with. Stage 2 is available where supporting hardware, typically an upgraded intercooler, downpipe and supporting fuelling, is fitted, and we'll assess your car's setup honestly before recommending it. A standalone rolling road session, without any remap attached, suits owners who want a documented baseline before deciding on anything further. Launch control coding is available on cars specified with it from the factory. A flame tune is available on request for track or show use, on a strictly enthusiast and off-road basis. We do not offer speed limiter removal on the STI, that's a commercial vehicle service.
Why WRX STI owners remap
Two kinds of STI owner come through Eccles. The first is chasing lap time, someone who already knows the car's factory limits from track days and wants sharper throttle response and more usable mid-range without touching the reliability that makes the EJ257 a proven platform in the first place. The second is a long-term owner, often on a UK Final Edition or an import chosen because of the model itself, who wants the car sharpened for spirited road use while keeping everything else about it exactly as it left the factory. Both get the same starting point: a baseline pull taken from that car, because an EJ257 with 80,000 careful miles and one with a harder life do not take the same map.
Engine and stage options
The WRX STI runs Subaru's EJ257, a 2.5-litre turbocharged flat-four producing up to 300 bhp from the factory in UK Final Edition specification, sent through the Symmetrical AWD system that has defined the STI since its earliest rally-bred versions. This is a different engine to the standard WRX, which runs the turbocharged FA20 or FA24 depending on generation, and different again to the naturally aspirated FA24 in the Subaru BRZ, which has no turbo to build on. for the exact Stage 1 range on your car. Stage 2 depends on supporting hardware being fitted and is assessed individually rather than quoted as a blanket figure.
A visit to Eccles
An STI booking starts with a baseline pull on the 4WD Bapro dyno, so the calibration that follows is built from your car's actual condition rather than a generic file. From there the ECU is read via Kess3 or CMD bench tooling and a map developed for that pull, with Symmetrical AWD loaded properly rather than approximated on a single-axle rig. Verification pulls follow on the same rollers once the map is applied, so the before-and-after comparison you leave with reflects one consistent test, not two different conditions. Most STI sessions run to around half a day at Eccles, and we'll confirm a realistic time when you book.
