Subaru WRX remap
Two turbocharged flat-fours have worn the WRX badge in the UK, the earlier FA20 and the current FA24-derived import, and both are dyno-verified at our Eccles facility. Call 0161 302 5117 to talk through your car and which generation you're running.
Subaru WRX power figures
| Generation | Stage | BHP | Torque | Notes | |–-|–-|–-|–-|–-| | FA20 (earlier EU-market WRX) | Stock | 268 bhp | 350 Nm | 2.0 turbo flat-four, Symmetrical AWD | | FA20 (earlier EU-market WRX) | Stage 1 | | | Software only, no hardware changes | | FA24 (current, US-spec-derived import) | Stock | 271 bhp | 350 Nm | 2.4 turbo flat-four, Symmetrical AWD | | FA24 (current, US-spec-derived import) | Stage 1 | | | Software only, no hardware changes |
The WRX name covers two genuinely different engines on UK roads, and lumping them into one set of figures would misrepresent both. The earlier EU-market WRX runs the FA20, a 2.0-litre turbo flat-four producing 268 bhp from the factory. Subaru does not currently sell the WRX new through its UK dealer network; the current FA24-engined WRX on UK roads is a US-spec-derived import brought in through specialist importers, a bigger-capacity, differently tuned engine to the FA20 despite carrying the same badge. Whichever generation is on your driveway, the figures above are measured from that car's own baseline pull, not lifted from a spec sheet.
What the gain feels like
A Stage 1 calibration on either WRX generation is felt most in the mid-range, where a turbo flat-four already does most of its work. Throttle response sharpens, the delivery through the mid-range firms up, and the gap between a small throttle input and the car actually responding closes. On the road that shows up as less time spent waiting for boost to build and more confidence pulling out of a junction or overtaking. Symmetrical AWD means that extra torque gets to the road rather than spinning a single wheel, which is part of why a WRX remap tends to feel more usable day to day than the same gain on a front-driven hot hatch.
Every service available on the WRX
Stage 1 is the starting point for most WRX owners, developed and verified on our 4WD Bapro dyno. Stage 2 is available where supporting hardware, typically an upgraded intercooler and supporting fuelling, is fitted, and we'll advise honestly on whether your car's setup justifies it rather than pushing it as a default. An economy remap suits owners covering high motorway mileage who want a smoother, more efficient daily calibration rather than outright power. A standalone rolling road session, without any remap attached, gives you a documented figure whether or not you go ahead. Launch control coding is available on cars specified with it from the factory. A flame tune is available on request for track or show use, on a strictly enthusiast and off-road basis.
Dyno proof for the WRX
Symmetrical AWD is central to how a WRX puts power down, and it's why we calibrate every WRX on the 4WD Bapro dyno rather than a two-roller rig built for a front-driven hatchback. Loading all four wheels the way the car actually sends drive to them means the baseline pull, the map, and the verification runs all happen with the WRX doing what it does on the road, not a compromised single-axle version of it. Every WRX is read and calibrated in person via Kess3 or CMD bench tooling at Eccles, there's no remote flashing platform for Subaru on this site. This is the same dyno we use across the wider Subaru range, so an FA20 car and an FA24 car get the same standard of testing despite being different engines under one badge.
