The G16E-GTS

Three cylinders and 1.6 litres does not sound like a recipe for 300 bhp, but the G16E-GTS is one of the most highly stressed production engines currently on sale, and it produces exactly that from the factory. It is the same core architecture found in the GR Yaris, tuned slightly differently for the Corolla's application, and it drives through Toyota's GR-Four all-wheel-drive system rather than a simple front-drive layout.

An engine producing this much specific output per cylinder does not leave the same margin a larger, lower-stressed unit might, and that is exactly why the calibration work matters. Toyota's factory map is tuned conservatively for a global market with widely varying fuel quality, and there is genuine headroom above it, but finding it means understanding where the G16E-GTS is actually restrained rather than simply raising boost and hoping the engine tolerates it. before publishing a specific number, and treat any Stage 2 figure the same way until hardware and calibration are proven together on this engine.

Why G16E-GTS remapping needs a specialist

This is a new, unusually stressed platform, and it rewards a tuner who has actually worked on one rather than adapted a file from a different three-cylinder engine. The ECU is read and written via Kess3 or CMD bench tooling in person at Eccles. There is no remote flashing app for the GR Corolla on this site, and a generic file mismapped to a different market's fuel specification or ambient conditions is a real risk on an engine running this close to its structural limits. Every calibration Samuel Gunnell develops here starts from your car's own baseline pull, not a shared community file.

Every service available on the GR Corolla

Stage 1 calibration, software only, is the primary service on the G16E-GTS. Stage 2 is hardware-dependent and only makes sense once supporting components are fitted. Beyond the engine map, a standalone rolling road session is available for owners who want a documented figure without committing to a remap, and launch control coding suits owners using the car on track. We do not offer speed limiter removal or a flame tune on the GR Corolla. Both belong to different categories of vehicle, and neither is relevant to this platform.

Frequently asked questions

Is Stage 2 available on the G16E-GTS?
Stage 2 depends on supporting hardware, typically an upgraded intake and exhaust system, before a more aggressive calibration makes sense. We will advise on what your specific car needs once the hardware is in place.
Do you remap the gearbox alongside the engine?
The GR Corolla's manual gearbox has no TCU to recalibrate, so there is no separate gearbox remap on this platform. Contact us if your specific car has an automatic variant we should discuss.
How long does a GR Corolla remap take?
A typical Stage 1 session, including baseline pull, calibration and verification runs, takes around half a day at Eccles. We will confirm a realistic timeframe when you book.
Will the remap affect GR-Four's driving modes?
A properly developed calibration works with the car's existing systems rather than against them, and we test across the relevant GR-Four modes during verification to confirm everything behaves as expected.
Do you cover the Morizo Edition as well as the standard car?
Yes. Special editions typically share the same core ECU calibration as the standard GR Corolla with minor adjustments. Contact us with your specific variant and we will advise.
