Toyota GR86 remap

Bought for the drive, not the spec sheet. Whether yours lives on the daily commute or comes out for track days, the GR86 asks for a calibration that respects what a naturally aspirated flat-four can honestly give up. Call 0161 302 5117 to talk through your car.

Every service available on the GR86

Stage 1 calibration on the FA24 is the headline service, and it is a refinement job rather than a boost-driven power hike, more on that below. A standalone rolling road session is worth booking on its own, with or without a remap attached, and gives you a documented baseline figure for track prep or simply to know what your car is producing. Launch control coding is available where the car is specified with it from the factory. We do not offer Stage 2 on the naturally aspirated FA24. There is no supporting hardware pathway on this engine that would justify one, and we would rather say that plainly than sell you a package that does not exist.

Why GR86 owners remap

Two kinds of GR86 owner come through Eccles. The first drives the car daily and wants sharper throttle response and a cleaner delivery through the rev range, the sort of change that makes the car feel more alive without altering how it behaves. The second owns the GR86 for track days and wants the same refinement plus a documented dyno figure to work from when setting up the rest of the car, tyres, alignment, brakes.

Neither owner is chasing a big bhp number, because the FA24 does not have one to give without forced induction. What both get from a properly developed calibration is a car that responds more precisely to input, which matters more on a lightweight, balanced rear-wheel-drive platform like this one than raw peak power ever would.

Engine and stage options

The GR86 runs Subaru's FA24 2.4-litre naturally aspirated flat-four, jointly developed with Subaru and shared with the BRZ, producing 231 bhp from the factory. There is no turbocharger to build boost against, so a Stage 1 calibration works on timing and fuelling refinement rather than raising a boost target. for the exact improvement achievable on this platform, but expect a genuine, modest sharpening rather than a large power jump. Stage 2 does not apply here. See our Subaru BRZ page for the same engine covered from the other badge.

A visit to Eccles

A GR86 booked in for Stage 1 starts with a baseline pull on the 4WD Bapro dyno, establishing exactly what your engine is producing before anything changes. Samuel Gunnell reads the ECU via Kess3 or CMD bench tooling, in person, and develops the calibration from that baseline data rather than a generic file. Verification pulls on the same rollers confirm the result before you leave. If you are here for a standalone rolling road session, the process is the same minus the mapping stage, and you walk away with a documented figure either way.

Frequently asked questions

How long will my GR86 be with you?
A typical Stage 1 session, baseline pull through to verification, takes around half a day at Eccles. A standalone rolling road session without a remap is usually quicker. We will confirm a timeframe when you book.
Do I need to do anything before I bring my GR86 in?
Arrive with a reasonable amount of fuel and no outstanding warning lights. Beyond that, no preparation is required. We inspect the car before starting any work.
Can I watch the dyno session?
Yes. Our facility at Eccles is set up for owners to watch their own car on the rollers, and most GR86 owners do.
Is a remap covered by any kind of guarantee?
We stand behind our calibration work. If something is not right with the map, contact us and we will address it.
What if I only want a rolling road session and not more power?
That is a genuinely useful booking on a car like this. A standalone session gives you a documented baseline figure, useful before a track day or simply to know what your GR86 is making, with no remap required.
