VW Golf GTD remap
EA288 2.0-litre TDI, the diesel half of the Golf's performance range. Dyno-verified at our Eccles facility, torque delivery built for how the car is actually driven. Call 0161 302 5117 to discuss your car.
The EA288 across GTD generations
The Mk7 Golf GTD arrived with the EA288 2.0 TDI producing 181 bhp, updated through the Mk7.5 facelift to 184 bhp with a revised calibration. The current Mk8 GTD carries the same core EA288 architecture forward to 197 bhp, benefiting from a newer generation of injection and boost control hardware.
The GTD has always been the sensible sibling to the GTI, a diesel that trades outright top-end for stronger low-down pull and better real-world economy. Volkswagen's factory tune on the EA288 is deliberately conservative, built to satisfy emissions compliance and a wide range of fuel qualities across markets, and there is genuine torque headroom sitting above it. A Stage 1 calibration developed properly for this engine brings that headroom out, and on a diesel the change is felt most clearly in mid-range pull rather than a dramatic top-end rush. before publishing a specific number for any generation.
Why EA288 remapping needs a specialist
The EA288 in the GTD is tuned differently to the equivalent-capacity petrol EA888 in the GTI, with its own fuelling, boost and emissions-related parameters that a generic diesel file will not respect. Samuel Gunnell has extensive experience writing VAG diesel calibrations specifically, and develops every GTD map from a baseline pull on your specific car rather than a file built for a different market's fuel specification or emissions standard.
Every service available on the GTD
Stage 1 calibration is the core service on the EA288, developed and verified on the dyno for genuine mid-range torque improvement. An economy remap is available for owners who want smoother, more efficient cruising on higher-mileage motorway use. A standalone rolling road session is available without a remap attached. We do not offer Stage 2, speed limiter removal, launch control coding or a flame tune on the GTD, none apply to this platform.
Gearbox
The DSG dual-clutch gearbox available across GTD generations is worth remapping alongside the engine using xHP, the dedicated gearbox and TCU tool for VAG DSG transmissions. An xHP remap adjusts shift speed, shift points and torque limiter settings to suit the engine's new output, making the DSG noticeably more responsive in Sport mode without touching the engine ECU itself.
