Why the 4WD dyno matters for the T-Roc R

The T-Roc R's 4Motion system shifts drive between axles under load rather than sitting in a fixed split, and a two-roller dyno cannot load that properly. Holding only one axle on rollers either leaves the system partially unloaded or forces it into an operating mode it never uses on the road, and the power figure that comes out of a pull like that is not one worth trusting. Our 4WD Bapro dynamometer loads all four wheels simultaneously, the same rig used for the Golf R and other Haldex-based 4Motion cars in this workshop, so the T-Roc R's 4Motion system operates exactly as it does on the road throughout the baseline pull, the calibration and the verification runs.

How we map the T-Roc R

A baseline pull on the 4WD Bapro establishes exactly what your T-Roc R is producing before anything changes. Samuel Gunnell reads the ECU and develops the calibration from that baseline data, working within the EA888 evo4's standard hardware for Stage 1. Once the map is applied, verification pulls on the same rollers, back to back with the baseline, confirm the result rather than assume it.

Beyond the Stage 1 map developed on the dyno

Stage 1 is the primary calibration on the T-Roc R's EA888 evo4, software only and developed on the dyno. Stage 2 is available once supporting hardware, typically an upgraded intercooler and downpipe, is fitted. A DSG remap alongside the engine map adjusts shift speed, shift points and launch control calibration, best done in the same visit. A standalone rolling road session is available without a remap attached. We do not offer speed limiter removal or a flame tune on the T-Roc R.

Stage 1 vs Stage 2

Stage 1 on the EA888 evo4 is software only, working within the standard turbocharger, intercooler and exhaust to unlock the margin Volkswagen leaves in the factory calibration. Stage 2 requires supporting hardware, an upgraded intercooler and downpipe are the usual starting points, before a more aggressive calibration is developed to suit the increased airflow. We will advise on whether Stage 2 makes sense for your car and how you use it, and we will not push it where Stage 1 already delivers what you are after.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't a two-roller dyno test my T-Roc R properly?
A two-roller rig only holds one axle, which means 4Motion is either unloaded or forced into a non-standard operating mode. Our 4WD Bapro loads all four wheels, so the system runs exactly as it does on the road.
How long does the dyno session itself take?
A typical Stage 1 session, baseline pull through to verification, takes around half a day at Eccles. We will confirm a realistic timeframe when you book.
Do you use my car's actual data or a generic file?
Your car's own baseline pull, every time. The calibration is developed from that data, not sourced from a shared community file built for a different car.
What happens if the dyno run shows a problem with my car?
We stop and flag it. A baseline pull can surface an existing issue before it becomes part of a new calibration, and we would rather find that now than after the map is applied.
Can I book a rolling road session on my T-Roc R without a remap?
Yes. A standalone session gives you a documented figure with no calibration work required.
