The Tiguan R takes the latest evo4 generation of Volkswagen's EA888 four-cylinder turbo, tuned to 316 bhp and 320 PS, and puts it through 4Motion into a taller, heavier body than the Golf R that shares the same fundamental engine architecture. The extra weight changes how the power is delivered, but the underlying calibration principles are the same.
Volkswagen's factory tune on the evo4 EA888 is built to satisfy a wide global market and a range of fuel qualities, and there is genuine headroom above what the ECU permits from the factory. A Stage 1 calibration developed properly for this engine and this specific application brings that headroom out, with the improvement felt most in mid-range response given the extra mass the Tiguan R is moving compared with the hot hatch versions of this platform. before publishing a specific figure.

The evo4 generation of EA888 uses a different ECU generation to the earlier units fitted to older Golf R and GTI models, and requires the appropriate tooling and software to work with correctly. Stage 1 calibration is the core service on the EA888 evo4, developed and verified on the dyno. Stage 2 is available once supporting hardware, typically an upgraded intercooler and downpipe, is fitted. A standalone rolling road session is available without a remap attached. We do not offer speed limiter removal, launch control coding or a flame tune on the Tiguan R.

The DSG dual-clutch gearbox fitted to the Tiguan R is worth remapping alongside the engine.
