Audi S3 remap
Every S3 is calibrated on our 4WD Bapro dyno, the only way to load quattro properly. Call 0161 302 5117 to talk through your car, or see the full range of Audi remapping we cover.
Why the 4WD dyno matters for the S3
Quattro is standard on the 8Y S3, and that is not a detail to skip past when it comes to testing the car properly. A two-roller dyno cannot load all four driven wheels at once, so an AWD car put on one either runs in a compromised, non-standard mode or has an axle disconnected altogether. Either way, the number it produces is not the number the car actually makes on the road. Our four-roller Bapro dyno loads every wheel simultaneously, the same way quattro distributes drive when you are actually driving the car, so the baseline and the verification pulls both mean something.
This is the same rig used for the RS-badged cars in this workshop, and the S3 gets exactly the same treatment on it.
How we map the S3
A session starts with a baseline pull on the rollers, giving us an accurate picture of what your specific car produces before any calibration is touched. The ECU is read directly rather than a pre-written file being pushed to it, and the map is developed against your car's actual baseline data. Once the calibration is applied, verification pulls follow straight afterwards on the same rollers, so the before-and-after comparison is measured in identical conditions on identical equipment, not compared against a different day or a different rig.
Beyond the Stage 1 map developed on the dyno
Stage 1 is where most S3 owners start, and it is a software-only calibration. Beyond that, we remap the S tronic gearbox alongside the engine using xHP, the dedicated VAG gearbox tool, sharpening shift speed and shift points to suit the power the engine now makes. An economy remap is available for owners who want better consumption rather than more power, and a standalone rolling road session is available if you want a baseline pull without committing to a full remap. Stage 2 is covered below.
Stage 1 vs Stage 2
Stage 1 on the S3's EA888 is software only and covers the majority of what most owners are after: a fuller mid-range and sharper response without touching any hardware. Stage 2 needs supporting hardware, typically an upgraded intercooler and intake, to unlock further headroom safely, and it is not something we push as a default upgrade. We will advise whether Stage 2 is warranted for how you actually use the car before recommending it.
