Your car goes onto a 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer at the Eccles, Manchester facility, and the calibration is developed and confirmed against real measured output. Samuel Gunnell runs a baseline pass before any work begins, so there is a recorded starting point. The map is built and refined on the rollers. A second run, then another if the data requires it, until the calibration is confirmed. The session ends when the numbers are right, not when a timer runs out.
What you receive is a before-and-after power figure taken from your specific engine on that day. A generic remap gives you an estimate based on what a car like yours typically makes. That estimate might be close, or it might not be. A dyno-verified map gives you the actual number. The distinction matters when you are spending money on performance work.
Vehicle types
The 4WD Bapro dynamometer handles all-wheel-drive platforms correctly, which most UK rolling roads cannot do. A two-wheel-drive rolling road cannot load an AWD car properly and produces inaccurate data as a result.

Why a generic remap is not the same thing
A cheaper generic remap is a calibration file built for an average version of your engine. The person loading it does not know what your specific engine produces before they start, and they will not know what it produces when they finish. The file is an approximation.
A map developed on your engine under load, monitored in real time and confirmed with measured results is not a like-for-like comparison with a file loaded through an OBD port in a car park.
