BMW 1 Series remap

Every M135i is calibrated on our 4WD Bapro dyno, the only way to load xDrive properly. If you drive the earlier rear-drive M140i instead, the same rig gives you a repeatable, load-simulated figure rather than a road estimate. See the full range of BMW remapping we cover, or call 0161 302 5117 to discuss your car.

Why the 4WD dyno matters for the 1 Series

The current F40-generation M135i runs the B48 2.0-litre turbo with xDrive as standard, and a two-roller dyno cannot load an xDrive car properly. It forces the car into a non-standard mode or leaves an axle disconnected, and neither produces a genuine figure. Our four-roller Bapro dyno loads all four wheels at once, the way xDrive actually sends drive to the road.

The earlier F20 M140i is a different car entirely under the badge, built around the B58 3.0-litre straight-six. In the UK it was sold rear-wheel drive only; xDrive was offered on the M140i in other European markets but was never brought to the UK. Whichever drivetrain your M140i has, the same four-roller rig is used, because a load-simulated pull produces a documented, repeatable figure rather than a road estimate, regardless of how many wheels are driven.

How we map the 1 Series

A session starts with a baseline pull on the rollers so we have an accurate figure for your specific car before touching anything. From there the approach depends on the engine. The F20 M140i's B58 is one of the platforms this workshop maps remotely using Bootmod3 or MHD, reading and writing the calibration through the OBD port without opening the car up. The F40 M135i's B48 does not have a remote tuning app on this site. It is mapped in person via Kess3 and CMD at Eccles, with the ECU read directly. Verification pulls follow on the same rollers straight after calibration either way.

Every service available on the 1 Series

Stage 1 is available on both the current M135i and the earlier M140i, tailored to whichever engine is fitted. Stage 2 is available where supporting hardware suits the platform, and we will advise honestly rather than push it as standard. We remap the automatic gearbox alongside the engine on both generations, and a standalone rolling road session is available if you want a baseline pull without a full remap.

Stage 1 vs Stage 2

Stage 1 on either generation is software only and delivers the bulk of the usable gain most owners are after. Stage 2 needs supporting hardware, typically an upgraded intercooler and exhaust, to unlock further headroom, and it is not something we recommend by default. We will tell you honestly whether it suits your car and how you drive it.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't a two-roller dyno test my M135i properly?
xDrive sends drive to all four wheels, and a two-roller rig can only load two at once, forcing a non-standard test mode. Our 4WD Bapro dyno loads all four wheels simultaneously, so the figures reflect how the car actually drives.
How long does the dyno session itself take?
The dyno portion, covering baseline and verification pulls, typically takes under an hour within a session running a few hours in total including calibration.
Do you use my car's actual data or a generic file?
Your car's actual data. Whether B48 or B58, we read the ECU directly and build the calibration against your specific car's baseline pull.
What happens if the dyno run shows a problem with my car?
We stop and tell you before proceeding. A problem flagged on the baseline pull gets addressed before any remap goes ahead.
Can I book a rolling road session on my 1 Series without a remap?
Yes. A standalone rolling road session is available on either generation if you just want a baseline pull or a health check without committing to a remap.
