Whether you're running a diesel daily driver or an M340i weekend car, there is meaningful power sitting untapped in the factory calibration. At Manchester Dyno Centre we develop and verify every BMW 3 Series remap on our 4WD Bapro dynamometer at our Eccles, Manchester facility. Which 3 Series do we remap?

We work across the F30 and G20 generations, covering the full engine range.

B47, 320d The B47 four-cylinder diesel is a strong platform for economy and performance remapping. Stage 1 delivers a substantial improvement in mid-range torque, which transforms the driveability of the 320d without touching any hardware. Economy remaps are also popular here, smoothing the torque curve and improving throttle response to reduce fuel consumption on longer runs.

N57 / B57, 330d The six-cylinder diesel versions respond very well to calibration work. The B57 in particular has a wide operating window that the factory map leaves largely unexplored. Torque limiters, injection timing and boost pressure all have room to move, and the results on the dyno are consistently impressive.

B48, 320i and 330i The B48 petrol four-cylinder is a well-engineered unit that holds additional power reliably. Stage 1 on the 320i and 330i is achieved through the OBD port with no hardware changes required. The gain is clean and progressive, not a spike that trails off, but a proper increase that holds across the rev range.

B58, M340i The M340i is where things get serious. Factory power sits at approximately 374 bhp, and a Stage 1 remap on the B58 brings verified output to around 440 bhp. The B58 engine is among the strongest production units currently in tuning, with headroom that allows for Stage 2 work when supporting hardware, upgraded intercooler, intake, and in some cases downpipe, is fitted. Every M340i that leaves our workshop has been run on the dyno and the numbers confirmed before handover.

How we work

We are a fixed dyno facility. Customers travel to us at HNA Facilities, Plot Zero, James Nasmyth Way, Eccles, Manchester M30 0SF, Eccles, Manchester. The car goes on the Bapro 4WD dynamometer, we establish a baseline run, develop the calibration, then confirm the result with back-to-back power pulls. You leave knowing exactly what your 3 Series is producing.

This matters because a remap that cannot be measured is a remap you have to take on faith. We do not ask you to do that.

With over ten years of tuning experience and international recognition in the performance industry, Samuel has worked on hundreds of BMW applications. The 3 Series platform, across every generation and engine variant we cover, is a known quantity in this workshop.

Stage 1 and Stage 2, what is the difference?

Stage 1 is a software-only calibration through the OBD port. It requires no hardware modifications and is appropriate for cars in standard or near-standard specification. This is the most common starting point for 3 Series owners.

Stage 2 becomes relevant when hardware upgrades are already fitted, typically on the B58 M340i. With a performance intercooler, upgraded intake and potentially an aftermarket downpipe, the engine can support significantly more boost and a more aggressive calibration. Stage 2 on a well-prepared M340i produces results that move it into genuinely quick territory on road and track alike.

Economy remapping

Not every 3 Series customer is chasing maximum power. Economy remapping, particularly popular on the B47 320d, focuses on fuel efficiency and throttle refinement. By adjusting injection timing, torque delivery and gear change thresholds (on automatic gearboxes), we can measurably reduce fuel consumption for high-mileage drivers. The improvement in driveability is a consistent secondary benefit.

Frequently asked questions

Will a remap affect my BMW warranty?
A remap will be visible to BMW dealer diagnostic equipment. If your car is still under manufacturer warranty, this is worth considering before proceeding. We are happy to discuss the implications for your specific situation.
Do I need to book the car in?
Yes. All work is carried out by appointment at our Eccles, Manchester facility. Contact us to arrange a date and discuss your car and goals.
How long does a remap take?
A typical Stage 1 remap including dyno verification takes approximately two to three hours. More complex work, Stage 2, or cars requiring additional investigation, may take longer. We will advise at booking.
Can I have an economy remap and a power remap on the same car?
Not simultaneously, but we can calibrate for the best balance of power and efficiency, which is often the most practical outcome for a car used on both motorways and B-roads.
Do you remap automatic gearboxes as well?
Yes. On 3 Series models with the ZF 8-speed automatic we can remap the gearbox ECU alongside the engine, adjusting shift points, shift speed and torque converter behaviour.
