What you leave with

The question worth asking before you book a remap is not what the service costs, it is what you leave with. At Manchester Dyno Centre, the answer is a documented power figure. Your car goes onto the 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer at the Eccles, Manchester facility. Samuel Gunnell, lead tuner with over ten years of experience, runs a baseline pass to establish what your engine is producing before any work starts. He builds the calibration, puts the car back on the rollers, and monitors fuelling, boost pressure, ignition timing and knock events in real time. The calibration is refined until the data confirms it is right.

What you walk away with is a before-and-after power graph. Not an estimate of what a car like yours typically makes after a Stage 1 remap. The actual number for your engine, measured on the day.

For Leigh drivers, the facility is less than 8 miles away, around 20 minutes' drive. That is a short trip for a result that is not available from any laptop-and-OBD service operating locally.

Vehicle types covered

The 4WD Bapro dynamometer at the Eccles facility handles all-wheel-drive platforms correctly. A standard 2WD rolling road cannot load an AWD car under realistic conditions, which means the tuning data is compromised before the calibration work has even started. If your car is all-wheel-drive, this matters.

Platforms regularly remapped here include BMW B58, N55, N57 and S55; Volkswagen Golf GTI, GTD and Golf R; Audi with Quattro; Ford Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Transit and Ranger; Seat Cupra; Skoda Octavia vRS; Vauxhall Astra VXR; and Mercedes petrol and diesel. Both petrol and diesel are covered across all listed platforms, including vans and commercial vehicles.

Services

Stage 1 remap, more power without touching the hardware. Calibration developed and confirmed on the dyno against your engine's actual output.

Stage 2 remap, built to match your specific modifications: intercooler, intake, exhaust. The map accounts for the hardware you actually have fitted, not an average Stage 2 configuration.

Economy remap, lower fuel costs on the same journeys. Optimised for efficiency rather than peak power.

DSG and gearbox remap, transmission behaviour and shift points aligned to the engine calibration so both systems work together.

Rolling road session, power measurement only, no tuning. Know exactly where your car sits before any work.

Launch control, consistent, repeatable standing start, configured for your platform.

Flame tune, overrun note for enthusiast use, built for the specific vehicle rather than a generic setting.

Remote tuning, Bootmod3 (BM3) and MHD for BMW and Mini platforms.

A word on cost

A generic remap is a file built for an average version of your car. Your car is not average, it has its own fuelling characteristics, its own boost behaviour, and its own history. A map developed and tested on your specific engine, with a documented power figure to prove the result, is not a like-for-like comparison with a file loaded in a car park for less money.

FAQs

What power gains can I expect from a Stage 1 remap?
That depends on the platform and engine. Any service that quotes a specific power gain figure before seeing your car is working from an average, not a measurement. The Bapro gives you the actual figure for your engine, baseline and confirmed output, measured on the day. That number is more useful than anything quoted in advance.
Do you provide before-and-after power figures?
Yes. A dyno run is part of every session. You leave with documented baseline and final output, a graph and numbers you can put a value to, not a verbal estimate of how the car feels.
Can I watch the dyno session?
Customers are welcome at the facility during their session. The team will talk you through what is happening. Contact the team when booking if you want to know more about what to expect on the day.
Does a remap affect fuel consumption?
Stage 1 remaps often improve efficiency at light throttle, because the factory calibration is built to a compromise that a performance-oriented map corrects. If fuel economy is the priority rather than peak power, an economy remap is optimised specifically for that outcome. The two have different objectives and the calibration is built accordingly.
