The session, how it works

Here is what a session at Manchester Dyno Centre looks like in practice.

Your car arrives at the facility on James Nasmyth Way, Eccles, Manchester. It goes straight onto the 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer. Samuel Gunnell runs a baseline power pass to establish where the car currently sits, fuelling output, boost pressure, ignition timing, and any knock events are all visible in real time before any work has been done.

He reads the ECU via Kess3 or CMD hardware, depending on the platform and what the job requires. The calibration is built or modified on the day, specific to your car's data from that baseline run. The car goes back on the rollers. Every run is monitored live, boost response, fuelling under load, timing behaviour across the rev range. If the data shows a refinement is needed, the calibration is adjusted and the car runs again. The session ends when the data confirms the work is right, not before.

You leave with documented before-and-after power figures: what the car made before Samuel touched it, and what it makes now. That is the process on every job, regardless of vehicle or service type.

The facility

Manchester Dyno Centre operates from a 6,000 sq ft workshop at HNA Facilities, Plot Zero, James Nasmyth Way, Eccles, Manchester M30 0SF.

The centrepiece of the facility is a 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer. Full 4WD capability is not standard at most UK remapping facilities, the majority operate 2WD rolling roads, which cannot load an all-wheel-drive car properly and will produce inaccurate data as a result. The Bapro at Eccles handles AWD platforms correctly.

All ECU read-write is carried out with Kess3 and CMD hardware. Kess3 covers a wide range of OBD-connected platforms. CMD adds bench tuning capability for ECUs that require physical removal, direct access where OBD alone is insufficient. Parking is available on site. This is a fixed facility; Manchester Dyno Centre does not operate a mobile service.

Services, technical reference

ECU calibration, Stage 1 (petrol and diesel): software-only remap developed on the dyno. No hardware changes required. Fuelling, boost, and ignition timing adjusted to the car's actual data.

ECU calibration, Stage 2: full calibration matched to fitted hardware modifications (intercooler, filter, exhaust). Requires supporting hardware to already be fitted before the session. Results confirmed on the rollers.

TCU calibration (DSG and traditional gearboxes): transmission control unit tuning to adjust shift behaviour, shift points, and torque limiters. Carried out alongside ECU calibration where the two need to match.

Rolling road session (power verification only): baseline or verification run without calibration work. Documents current output. Suitable as a standalone check or pre/post reference.

Launch control activation: RPM-based launch control coded and mapped to the platform. Consistent standing start behaviour.

Speed limiter recalibration: available for vans and commercial vehicles where the factory limit is operationally restrictive.

Overrun and anti-lag (flame tune): controlled overrun calibration producing audible character on the overrun. Enthusiast use. Applied as a calibration, not a switch.

Remote platform tuning via Bootmod3 (BM3) and MHD: BMW and Mini platform tuning delivered remotely. Calibration built by Samuel Gunnell, no in-person attendance required.

Rochdale drivers at Manchester Dyno Centre

Rochdale sits approximately 14 miles from the Eccles facility, with easy access onto the motorway network westbound. Journey time is around 30 to 35 minutes in normal traffic. The area produces a mix of performance car owners and commercial vehicle operators, both petrol and diesel tuning are covered at the facility, and commercial speed limiter work is a regular part of the booking calendar. If you are coming from further out in the borough or from surrounding villages, allow slightly longer for the motorway approach.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a remap session take at Manchester Dyno Centre?
A Stage 1 session typically takes two to four hours, including baseline and verification runs on the dyno. Stage 2 work, complex platforms, or sessions involving both ECU and TCU calibration may take longer. Call before booking to confirm the expected session length for your specific vehicle, the team can advise once they know the car.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. All sessions are scheduled in advance, walk-ins are not accommodated. Call 0161 302 5117 to arrange a booking. The team will confirm the session type, expected duration, and any preparation required for your specific platform.
What should I bring or prepare before my appointment?
Arrive with a full tank of the correct fuel for your car. Do not arrive with outstanding fault codes, active faults can prevent the session from proceeding and will need to be resolved before tuning begins. Declare any modifications when you book: Samuel calibrates to the hardware the car actually has fitted, and this information needs to be accurate before the day.
Can you remap all-wheel-drive vehicles?
Yes. The 4-Wheel-Drive Bapro dynamometer at the Eccles facility loads AWD platforms correctly. Most rolling roads in the UK are 2WD only, they can operate the car in front-wheel-drive mode in some cases, but they cannot accurately load an all-wheel-drive drivetrain under real conditions. The Bapro does. If your car is AWD, this matters for the quality of the data and the accuracy of the calibration.

Ready to book your session?

Call 0161 302 5117 to arrange. A call before booking lets the team confirm the right session type for your vehicle, advise on preparation, and give a quote for the specific work required. All pricing is on enquiry.
